Makeover Your smile

Do you dream of having a smile that you can wear with confidence? At Sound Bridge Dental Arts, Dr. Bloomquist offers porcelain veneers as a cosmetic dental solution that enhances patient’s smiles. We’ll design your dream smile and cover up any cosmetic dental flaws to achieve your desired look.

To learn more about porcelain veneers and if they’re the right solution for your smile, read our patient-friendly guide below.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin, transparent shells that bond directly to the front surfaces of your teeth. Dr. Bloomquist will customize your veneers to perfectly match the shade and shape of your natural teeth for a flawless finish. They’re an ideal choice when it comes to improving your smile because they cover any minor cosmetic flaw.

We can use porcelain veneers to fix the following dental issues:

  • Broken or chipped teeth
  • Even out the appearance of teeth
  • Cover stains resistant to whitening
  • Make small teeth appear larger
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Chipped or crooked teeth

Can veneers damage your teeth?

No – veneers actually provide a cover to protect your teeth and can reinforce strength, especially in weak teeth that are prone to damage. However, when prepping your teeth for porcelain veneer placement, we’ll need to shave a small amount of tooth enamel to make room and provide a surface for them to adhere to. Even though the body can’t produce additional enamel, this is completely safe and won’t harm your teeth.

The Benefits of Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a patient favorite due to the many benefits they offer, including:

  • Fast, painless procedure
  • Completed in two appointments
  • Personalized for you
  • No harmful changes to your natural teeth
  • Can last up to 15 years
  • Stain-resistant

The Porcelain Veneers Process

The process for your new smile consists of two appointments to our Gig Harbor dental office. Dr. Bloomquist will first consult with you to ensure porcelain veneers are the right fit for you. She’ll then help you determine which shade you’d like your new smile to be. Once you’ve decided, she’ll clean your teeth and take off a small portion of your enamel to make room for your customized veneers.

Dr. Bloomquist will also take impressions of your teeth in order to create the veneers. Once they’re ready, you’ll return to our office where Dr. Bloomquist will directly bond the veneers to your teeth by using a dental resin that hardens when activated by a special light.

After they’re applied, Dr. Bloomquist will double-check that the veneers look and fit perfectly before solidifying the bond. Now, you’re ready to show off your new, flawless smile with confidence.

Is the veneers procedure painful?

No, receiving your porcelain veneers isn’t a painful procedure. We’ll apply a local anesthetic around the affected area to eliminate any pain or discomfort you may experience during the procedure. Our Gig Harbor team will be with you every step of the way to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible. In just a few short visits, we can help you achieve the smile of your dreams.

Taking Care of Your Porcelain Veneers

Your veneers can last up to 15 years with proper oral care. Luckily, taking care of your dental restorations is easy. To keep your porcelain veneers in great condition, make sure you’re brushing your teeth twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste, flossing daily, and rinsing with an alcohol-free, antibacterial mouthwash.

To maintain the luster of your veneers, we recommend avoiding or cutting down on foods that stain your teeth, like coffee, berries, tea, or wine. Hard food like nuts and candy can also hurt the integrity of your veneers, so be mindful when consuming these types of foods.

It’s also important to remember that one of the best ways to ensure your veneers stay in great shape is to schedule biannual appointments at our Gig Harbor dental office. This way, our dental experts can deep clean your teeth and stop the progression of any oral health issues.

What if my veneer falls off or is damaged?

If your veneer falls off, keep it safe in a small container or bag and bring it with you to your next appointment for re-application. We can either re-attach the veneer or suggest new ones if you’ve had your current veneers for a long time. Don’t try and fix or re-apply the damaged veneer yourself as this can cause further damage.
